The Red Lake district is located 180 kilometers north of Dryden about 100 kilometers from the Manitoba border in northwestern Ontario. It spans 42,000 hectares and has produced over 29 million ounces of gold since 1949. Red Lake Gold Mines includes the Red Lake and Campbell underground mining and processing complexes, and Cochenour, a potential new source of ore. The focus at Red Lake is on asset optimization and cost reduction efforts. Continued transition to mechanized mining, bulk mining and material movement automation is expected to result in mining lower grade ore and lower mining costs. Rationalization of the infrastructure is also underway to reduce costs. Reporting to the Underground Supervisor,  the Welder/Fabricator will be directly responsible for providing service and maintenance support to underground fleet of mobile equipment at Goldcorp Red Lake Gold Mines. 
  • Repair and maintain all mobile equipment in a safe, efficient and timely manner.
  • Perform welding duties using various welding methods (e.g. oxyacetylene, arc welding, electric arc equipment and welding rod, etc).
  • Report any hazards or safety concerns to Supervisor.
  • Work in a healthy work environment with full support, cooperation and commitment to satisfy our operation’s goal of being accident-free.
  • Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary institution in a welding program, or have acquired qualifications of the trade by progressively advancing through an apprenticeship program in order to become certified. 
  • Must possess a valid Journeyman Welder Interprovincial Certificate, be CWB-certified, and have a minimum of 2 years of heavy industrial experience.  
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination with high standards of accuracy
  • Strong mathematical aptitude and numerical ability
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and language
  • Underground welding experience
  • Familiar with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants
  • Works well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Works productively alone, or in a team atmosphere
