CAREER OPPORTUNITY
The Borden project is located near Chapleau, Ontario, approximately 160 kilometers west of Timmins. The project has the potential to further enhance the long-term economics of PGM. A pre-feasibility study has been completed to determine the optimization of a combined Borden-Porcupine operation. An Advanced Exploration permit has been received in April 2017 and the construction of a ramp was initiated at the Borden mine site. This will allow for an extraction of a 30,000 ton bulk sample and provide an underground platform for exploration drilling of a deposit that still remains open at depth and laterally. 
 
Underground General Foreperson
Borden Gold Project – Chapleau, ON
We are seeking an individual to ensure that the mine operates in a safe and efficient fashion, while optimizing production and minimizing costs.
Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the Underground General Foreperson are to:
 
  • Promote and adhere to Goldcorp /Borden Gold Mine’s environmental and sustainability polices.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with internal (Site Contractors) and external agencies (i.e. MOL, MOE, MASHA,).
  • Promote the principles of ownership and accountability to the Mine Department Foreman and hourly personnel.
  • Lead by example, provide guidance and motivate people to work safely.
  • Ensure Supervisors implement Borden safety initiatives, which include daily huddles, Act Twice, 5-Point Safety System, job task analysis, FLRA’s, safety meetings, etc.
  • Follow-up to MOL inspection reporting.
  • Provide on the job guidance and motivation to supervisors and crews.
  • Coach, hold to account and evaluate subordinates. Identify opportunities for improvements and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure Supervisors have the resources (including manpower, equipment and training) in place to have the work completed safely and efficiently.
  • Guide and coach individuals towards reaching both personal and company goals.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Develop short-term and mid-term mining plan in conjunction with Engineering and Geology departments.
  • Be accountable for all financial costs in the area managed.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
               
  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in a related mining discipline or an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with a minimum of 10 to 15 years’ experience in underground mining.
  • Completion of the Supervisory Common Core.
  • Combination of 10 –15 years production and development experience, with 10 years or more of frontline supervisory experience.
  • Very strong oral, written and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Mine Rescue experience would be an asset.
  • Ability to interpret Engineering plans and offer sound input to final design and implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead others.
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Mines & Mining Plants, surface and underground mine rescue training, WHMIS and Loss Control techniques.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Occupational Health and Safety Systems Management.
  • Familiarity with the various Common Core programs that are administered through the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan and schedule programs and activities.
  • Demonstrate good problem solving skills.
  • Work well in a team atmosphere.
