The Red Lake district is located 180 kilometers north of Dryden about 100 kilometers from the Manitoba border in northwestern Ontario. It spans 42,000 hectares and has produced over 29 million ounces of gold since 1949. Red Lake Gold Mines includes the Red Lake and Campbell underground mining and processing complexes, and Cochenour, a potential new source of ore. The focus at Red Lake is on asset optimization and cost reduction efforts. Continued transition to mechanized mining, bulk mining and material movement automation is expected to result in mining lower grade ore and lower mining costs. Rationalization of the infrastructure is also underway to reduce costs. We are excited to have experienced and qualified team members join our team and our community.  We are located in an area where you will experience the best in Northern lifestyle; past and present. Red Lake is located in the heart of a lake-studded, boreal forest region in Sunset Country. Red Lake is known for its natural beauty, abundant wildlife, and incredible Canadian fishing in the many freshwater lakes in the area.

Reporting to the Scheduling Team Leader the Mine Engineer - Scheduler will be responsible for managing the 36-month Rolling Schedule, by tracking mining progress, scheduling new or updated designs, and optimizing the schedule, while maintaining team ownership of the schedule through continuous interaction between Engineering, Operations and Maintenance departments. You will communicate the schedule and plan to all stakeholders to meet Goldcorp’s Red Lake Gold Mines’ production targets. You will act a resource to provide stakeholders with priority, date and sequence information to keep the overarching site objectives in mind when decision-making. You will be responsible for delivering the weekly and monthly forecast updates, and will contribute significantly to the budgeting process.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a healthy work environment with full support, cooperation and commitment to satisfy our operation’s goal of being accident-free.
  • Provide schedule, sequence and priority information to ensure production requirements are met as per budget. Participate in developing contingency plans as assurance.
  • Contribute to historical rate analyses and ensure that the rolling schedule and associated deliverables reflect realistic and achievable mining rates. Incorporate improvements to productivity into the schedule based on the execution of tangible action plans. Be involved in the creation and documentation of these.
  • Stay current of activities within respective headings and remain abreast of production, development and drilling rates to accurately schedule and prioritize required work. Track progress in each heading and report on variances to plan. Work with engineering and operations teams to mitigate variances to plan. Work with planners to identify critical-path headings, communicate the critical path schedule and the status of the headings relative to key milestone dates, and work to ensure compliance.
  • Update the rolling schedule with updated designs, driving quantities, production rates or required work as provided by the engineering and operations teams, following conceptual meetings or issued layouts.
  • Work with the underground operations department to ensure that development and production forecasts reflect a balanced personnel and equipment schedule.
  • Identify opportunities for schedule optimization (improving efficiencies, coordinating activities, identifying potential parallel activities, reducing delays, etc.) in conjunction with other departments such as planning, rock mechanics, ventilation, maintenance, electrical, geology, processing, and underground operations.
  • Participate in conceptual meetings, weekly cell meetings, daily crew huddles, etc. as a resource, identifying new development or production requirements that may be coming due and identifying all projects that may be falling behind. Maintain constant communication with all key stakeholders.
  • Understand and communicate the impact of changes to the plan on the rest of the month, quarter and year, to help with decision-making. Provide direction on priorities.
  • Attend and participate in daily crew meetings.
  • Plan workload with contingencies to ensure deliverable deadlines are met regardless of non-scheduled working days (i.e. weekends, regular days off, vacation, training, etc.).
  • Lead and engage in improvement efforts to achieve budgets, and realize production, operating and cost efficiency improvements such that RLGM remains competitive and profitable. Ensure that work performed adds value to the operation. Suggest and implement productivity or effectiveness improvements where possible.
  • Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • A technical degree in a mining-related field with drafting and scheduling experience.  Alternately, an individual possessing an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma with several years of mining experience in an Engineering or Mine department, with extensive drafting and/or scheduling experience, may be considered.
  • Advanced drafting and/or production scheduling skills
  • Good working knowledge of CAD programs, particularly Deswik or comparable
